Bricknell continues his fine formTasmanian sprintcar driver Jamie Bricknell continued with his recent form, taking a hard fought second place behind nearest rival Tim Hutchins at Carrick on Sunday night. Following the cancellation of round two of the Farmers Union series in Hobart due to weather, the round at Carrick was unscheduled, but provided some first class racing for the fans. Drawing midfield for both heats, Jamie drove a smart and competitive race, without pushing his Maxim beyond it's limit. "It wasn't a race for points" explains the 22 year old. "We were called up to fill void on the program, which we gladly did, but there's no need to wreck the gear." This was also the first excursion for the teams older engine after being rebuilt by KRE Race Engines. "This engine had a catastrophic failure last season" explains team owner Steve. "We thought it was beyond repair, but KRE proved why they are the best, repairing the block and rebuilding the engine better than it ever was." Starting out of grid four for the final, Bricknell held his position until several stoppages bunched the field up, and took out the leader. Jamie then battled with Shaun Robins for second position while Hutchins pulled a generous gap. "Shaun was tough to pass" recalls Jamie. "We had a little more pace than him, but he made his car very wide and defended well." With 5 laps to go, Jamie powered past Robins and into second place, and began to reel in Hutchins, but the laps eluded him and he settled for a hard fought second. The team now has a several weeks off in the program, focussing their efforts on preparing the new chassis which will debut close to the new year.
