Bricknell puts in solid performance

Tasmanian sprintcar star Jamie Bricknell has continued his competitive form during the latest round at Carrick Speedway.

In a rescheduled round due to a previous washout, Bricknell drew poorly for his first heat, starting out of 9th.  On a difficult track with limited passing opportunities, Jamie took advantage of his power and experience to drive his way to 5th.

"We didn't quite have the setup to suit the track" reflects Jamie. "It looked wet leading up to our heat, but blackened off almost instantly."

The knowledge gained on track conditions in the first heat was all but wasted however, as the organisers decided to re-water the track to try and stem the growing dust issues.

"That threw us a curve ball." says team owner Steve.  "We had no idea what it was going to be like, and had to make an educated guess."

The punt paid off for Jamie, as he powered to a strong victory in his second heat to secure a third place start for the final.

However, time constraints and track conditions again played a part in the final, with the track reverting back to a one lane, rock hard surface after a prolonged sedan final.

"Our setup would of been perfect for the final, if it had gone the full distance." adds Steve.  "We were catching the leaders, and as the fuel load lowered we were coming on strong.  But unfortunately the final was shortened by 10 laps due to the curfew, and had we known that prior to heading out, we could of lightened the load and set the car slightly different."

The team wont be sitting back and relaxing over the Christmas break, as they prepare for three big nights of racing.  The Boxing Night meeting at Carrick is earmarked to be fiercely contested, as it is the first round at the track that will affect the KRE / QSS points standings, and will be followed by the State Title in Hobart on the 30th, before heading to Latrobe for New Years Day.

"The state title will be interesting" suggests Steve.  "The one round he had scheduled at Hobart prior to the title was a washout, so apart from a few who have done hotlaps, no-one has driven the track this season, so we will be relying on last seasons data to prepare."
