There
have been plenty of positives to take from Jamie Bricknell’s
opening four race meetings in a Sprintcar, and after
a turbulent start to his career; the 18-year-old has
recently managed to score a pair of respectable feature
race results.
A
fifth place finish at Carrick Speedway during the running
of the annual David Turner Memorial on Saturday night
was an indication of how fast he is adapting to the
700 plus horsepower Sprintcars.
“I
managed to stay within the top five runners during the
David Turner Memorial and finished in fifth place, so
I was really happy with that,” expressed Bricknell.
“It
has been a huge learning curve stepping into the Sprintcars
from a Go Karting background, but one that I have so
far enjoyed very much.”
Finishing
his past two feature races in fifth and sixth place
respectively, along with a number of top three places
in his heat races, Bricknell is still very eager to
continue the learning process.
“In
my opening meeting I managed to crash out of the feature
race after getting tangled with a slower car and ended
up getting up side down,” he recalled.
“Of
late I have been very pleased with my feature race results,
as I am now learning to be consistent and to not get
too carried away out there n the track, as if you don’t
treat Sprintcars with respect then they will bite you.”
Bricknell,
who recently finished runner up in the Tasmanian State
Go Kart Title in the Clubman Light class, cannot wait
to move closer to the pointy end of the field.
“The
podium is where I have set my sights on, and that is
not going to be easily achieved especially with the
tough local competition that I am up against,” Bricknell
commented.
“I
have proven that I am a capable top five contender,
and with the more experience I gain the more confident
I will be with attempting to work my way towards a shot
at a podium result.”
The
appearance of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship
at the Hobart International Speedway on December 7 -
8 is the next meeting for Bricknell.
