After
a string of rain outs over in the state of Tasmania,
Jamie Bricknell returned to the track last Saturday
night during the sixth round of the World Series Sprintcar
(WSS) Championship at Hobart International Speedway
and came away with a top 10 feature race result.
Due
to a power steering pump failure in the second round
of heat races early in the night, Bricknell was forced
to qualify for the feature race via the B-main. With
the top six transferring through to the feature race
in the B-main Bricknell finished in third place and
started the feature race from position 15 in the field.
With
a tough task ahead of them Bricknell and his # 55 TAS
Giraffe Civil Contracting backed Maxim fought their
way forward and at the fall of the chequered flag in
the feature race he finished eighth.
“Considering
where we started and the fact that we didn’t have much
time to work on setup between the B-main and feature
race due to being forced to work on our cars on the
infield eighth place is a good result,” Bricknell said.
“It was disappointing to have the power steering pump
fail during our heat race and at the time I was running
in third and had we finished there we would have started
further up the field.”
Earlier
in the night Bricknell had qualified eighth fastest
and the top 8 times were all equal or better than the
existing lap record held by Jason Dawkins.
Bricknell’s
attention now turns to next Saturday night (December
13) for when the seventh round of the WSS Championship
heads to Latrobe International Speedway and the 19-year-old
is hoping to duplicate, or better, his performance from
last year’s WSS round at the venue. Last season at Latrobe
saw Bricknell finish the feature race in sixth place
and he also won the hard charger award that night.
