A Wealth of Experience Gained in Mainland Debut                                                    28-1-2009

“A simply awesome and worthwhile experience!” those were the words Tasmanian Jamie Bricknell used to describe his maiden mainland adventure when he took on the Grand Annual Classic, Kings Challenge and President’s Cup over the past week.

Bricknell’s mainland adventure kicked off at Avalon Raceway in Victoria for the President’s Cup last Wednesday night where he managed to qualify directly into the feature race and finish in 13th place, then it was off to Mt Gambier’s Borderline Speedway in South Australia for the Kings Challenge where he finished just outside a feature race transfer in the B-main and during the third and final spot of his trip was at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway back in Victoria for the Grand Annual Classic and over the two nights he far from disgraced himself.

The Grand Annual Classic brings together the very best Australian drivers and a host of American challenges and Bricknell gained plenty of praise and respect from his performance over the two nights around the daunting, high speed, Premier Speedway track.

“Premier Speedway and the Grand Annual Classic are wonderful and I had an absolute ball out there,” Bricknell expressed. “It’s a pretty intense event and you’re out there amongst so many tough racers and no matter what race you go into it’s a tough task. The Premier Speedway track itself is very unique and to go fast around there you have to be a bit fearless as the speeds around there are out of this world.”

In terms of pin pointing the one major benefit from his whole mainland adventure, Bricknell was quick with his response. “The fact that I had to race against so many talented drivers and taking them all on at three completely different tracks is a really tough task,” he said. “Racing at different tracks and up against big fields of drivers you learn so much and this trip has certainly given me the experience that I need in order to keep improving. That was the main reason for coming over to simply learn.”

The Bricknell team was also voted the best presented car and crew at this year’s Grand Annual Classic amongst the 67 other teams.

Bricknell and the team are now planning their next mainland trip for later this season to compete in the Easter Trail.

Special thanks must go out to Bricknell’s family and crew for all their support over the entire week on the mainland and also the advice and encouragement received from a few of the fellow drivers.

In just under a fortnight’s time (Saturday night, February 7) Bricknell is scheduled to return to the track in his home state at Carrick Speedway driving his # 55 TAS Giraffe Civil Contracting supported Maxim.
