Over
the two nights of the South Pacific Classic Bricknell
ended up finishing in a strong second during Saturday
night’s feature race behind winner Jason Dawkins and
then backed up that result the following night by just
finishing off the podium during the feature race in
fourth place.
For
Bricknell and his team the South Pacific Classic was
a return to form and one of the major contributors to
this was the fact that they reverted back to their 410ci
powerplant after spending the past few shows with their
372ci engine.
“Last
month we tried an experiment by going back to our 372ci
engine and as it proved we didn’t get the result that
we were after, as we thought maybe less [power] would
be more and it was certainly a lesson that we learned,”
explained the driver of the TAS # 55 Giraffe Civil Contracting
supported Maxim. “It was great to get back into my 410ci
engine and straight up we produced better results and
we now know that there is no substitute for horsepower
no matter what the track conditions are.”

Throughout
the two nights of the South Pacific Classic Bricknell
was one of the quickest cars in the field and on the
opening night he qualified second highest point scorer
heading into the feature race and that was where he
ended up finishing. In his two heat races on the opening
night Bricknell finished with a victory and a fourth
place. During his latter heat race on the opening night
his fourth place was achieved after starting from the
rear of the field. The second night saw Bricknell continue
his good form despite some errors with the setup during
the heat races that resulted in him finishing fourth
and sixth respectively.
The
feature race for the South Pacific Classic on the final
night resulted in Bricknell starting from position four
and at one stage during the 30-lap event he had moved
into third place and was involved in a good and clean
dice with Adrian Redpath before moving back to fourth.
Fourth place was where Bricknell ended up finishing
and this was still a pleasing result considering the
company he battled with.
Bricknell
will now take a weekend off before he returns to the
track on Saturday night, March 21 at Hobart International
Speedway for the latest round of the Farmers Union Series.
In the
meantime, Bricknell will spend this Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)
in Canberra (A.C.T) as part of the NASR Junior Driver
Development program.
