The
objective for Jamie Bricknell during last Saturday night’s
(April 4) final round of the Farmers Union Sprintcar
Series at Latrobe International Speedway in Tasmania
was to just get through the meeting unscratched in readiness
for the following weekend’s trip over to the mainland
to contest the Easter Sprintcar Trail and that was exactly
what he managed to achieve.
Despite
some controversy over the final results in the feature
race, after Bricknell had crossed the finish line in
third place only to be relegated back two spots due
to an alleged passing move on the infield, he was pleased
to bring his TAS # 55 Giraffe Civil Contracting backed
Maxim home in one piece. Bricknell had started the feature
race out of position nine, due to finishing second and
sixth in his two earlier heat races, and drove strongly
to work his way up into podium contention.
“It
was disappointing to work our way up to third place
only to be put two spots back at the finish for what
race officials believed was an infield passing move
and when I looked back over the video it clearly proved
that I didn’t,” expressed Bricknell, who ended up finishing
fourth overall in the final Farmers Union Series point
standings. “The main goal for the night was to just
get through the night without any damage and thankfully
we did that but it would have been nice to have kept
my podium finish. In the end the race officials have
their view and I have mine, and there isn’t a whole
lot I can do about it now. I just have to bear it.”

This
Wednesday (April 8) Bricknell’s transporter, loaded
with his car and spares, heads on the boat to make the
trip over to the mainland to contest the annual Easter
Sprintcar Trail. For Bricknell this is going to be his
second visit to the mainland. The Easter Trail starts
on Friday night (April 10) at Avalon Raceway (Geelong,
VIC), followed by Saturday night (April 11) at Borderline
Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA) and the final on Sunday night
(April 12) at Premier Speedway (Warrnambool, VIC).
“I am
very much looking forward to the Easter Trail and I
go into the three nights with some added confidence
due to having previous experience on all three tracks
from when I was here in January,” said Bricknell. “In
terms of goals I would like to do well and if I can
manage to make the feature race on all three nights
then I will be happy and anything after that will just
be a bonus.”
Recently,
Bricknell took part in the NASR Junior Development Driver
Program and spent three days at the Australian Institute
of Sport (AIS) in Canberra (A.C.T) and would like to
thank everyone from NASR and the AIS for the worthwhile
opportunity.
