After
three consecutive nights of racing, two of which he
ended up inside the top 10 of the feature race, Jamie
Bricknell has managed to finish fifth overall in the
point standings in his very first attempt at the annual
Easter Sprintcar Trail over on the mainland.
In what
was only his second ever trip over to the mainland,
Bricknell was aided by the fact that he had previous
experience at all three tracks, Avalon Raceway (Geelong,
VIC); Borderline Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA) and Premier
Speedway (Warrnambool, VIC), and that certainly worked
in his favour.
Fifth
place in the overall Easter Trail point standings was
as a result of a seventh place feature race finish on
the Saturday night at Borderline Speedway and then backed
up that the following night by bringing home a ninth
place finish at Premier Speedway after having to qualify
for the feature race via the B-main – which he ended
up winning by a comfortable margin.
“The
goal heading into the weekend was to just make the feature
race on each of the three nights but to finish inside
the top five overall is something that I certainly wasn’t
expecting,” mentioned Bricknell. “We had a really good
run at Borderline Speedway where we managed to move
forward and finish in seventh place. At Premier Speedway
I didn’t have the best time trial and that hurt us when
it came to making the feature race and I was forced
to qualify through the B-main. I started the feature
race from the back of the field and managed to stay
out of trouble and finish in ninth which was a really
pleasing result.”

Had
he not failed to finish the feature race on the opening
night of the Easter Trail at Avalon Raceway Bricknell
quite possibly could have finished higher in the overall
point standings at the completion of the three nights.
“On
the opening night we were having a real good run and
qualified for the feature race out of position 10 and
I felt we had good enough speed to finish well within
the top 10 and it might have seen us finish higher up
in the overall point standings had we finished there,”
commented Bricknell. “At the beginning of the feature
race there was a big coming together with a few cars
up ahead of me and when I came around I had absolutely
no where to go and ended up becoming involved and that
put us out as we had sustained a bit of damage.”
Once
again the TAS # 55 Giraffe Civil Contracting backed
Maxim, paired with the newly purchased ex Brooke Tatnell
410ci powerplant, worked very strongly and certainly
contributed to their good Easter Trail result.
Bricknell
wanted to say a special thanks to the whole Bricknell
Motorsport team for all their continuous efforts throughout
their gruelling Easter Trail campaign.
This
Saturday night (April 18) Bricknell competes back on
the Apple Isle at Carrick Speedway for what will be
his final appearance of the 2008/09 season.
