Bricknell was on the verge of his third consecutive
podium finish of the 2009/10 season at Latrobe’s Bendigo
Bank Arena in Tasmania over the weekend only to have
a deflated right rear tyre deny him of such a result.
For
the majority of the feature race, which was for the
third round of the Farmers Union Sprintcar Series, was
well in contention for at least a position on the podium
but a late stoppage to clear a crashed car, which lasted
a mammoth 45 minutes, killed off any chances due to
the right rear aboard the TAS # 55 Montile Tile Boutique
supported Maxim deflating and resulting in him finishing
just off the podium in fourth place.

“The
car was great up until that late stoppage and when we
restarted the car didn’t feel quite right and we consequently
dropped off the pace and it was only on the last lap
when Tim [Hutchins] got by me for third place,” explained
Bricknell of the late prolonged race stoppage that spoiled
his feature race podium finish chances. “I feel that
had we not had the flat tyre I am confident that we
would have ended the night with a better result. On
the positive side of things we have continued our strong
start to the season with a fourth place finish and consolidated
our lead in the overall Farmers Union Series point standings.”
In what
was his first visit to Bendigo Bank Arena this season
Bricknell earlier in the night finished his two heat
races with a third and second place respectively.
Bricknell
and the Bricknell Motorsport team will now take a few
weekends off before they return to action on Saturday
night, December 12 at Carrick Speedway for the twin
feature race format.
