It
may have taken him longer than he had expected, but
boom Tasmanian rookie Jamie Bricknell finally clinched
his very first podium finish in a Sprintcar and it took
place on Saturday night at Hobart International Speedway.
For
Bricknell this has been a result he has been on the
verge of all season, and his second place finish behind
Malcolm Lee quite possibly could have been a victory
had the race went any longer.
After
starting from position four in the feature race field,
Bricknell made his way into second place just after
half race distance and went about chasing down leader
Malcolm Lee but simply ran out of laps, and had to be
content with second place.
“My
car was setup very well for the feature race and it’s
great to finally finish on the podium for the first
occasion,” the 18-year-old expressed.
“The
car setup came on really strong in the second half of
the race and it was also a combination of me finding
the right race line, and in the closing laps I had actually
caught up to Malcolm [Lee] but he ended up getting the
win.
“Second
place is still a fantastic result, and it’s a great
relief to finally achieve that, as there have been numerous
occasions this season where I have been close, but simply
not close enough.”
Leading
into the 20-lap feature race Bricknell carried good
form aboard his # 55 TAS Precision Autos supported Maxim
after earlier in the night finishing his two heat races
with a victory and a fourth place.
Recently
Bricknell finished in fourth place overall in the Tasmanian
Sprintcar Series point standings and the youngster has
certainly proven to be one of the standout rookie drivers
in season 2007/08 on the Apple Isle.
Season
2007/08 will conclude for Bricknell this Saturday night
(April 12) at his home track of Carrick Speedway and
the aim to prove that last weekend’s podium result was
no fluke.
