In what
was his third trip to the mainland, Tasmanian Jamie
Bricknell was able to come away with not only some respectable
results but also plenty of experience running up against
Australia’s and some of the World’s very best.
Although
his Presidents Cup at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC)
and Kings Challenge at Borderline Speedway (Mt. Gambier,
SA) campaigns didn’t bring too much luck; Bricknell
was able to pick up some respectable results at Premier
Speedway (Warrnambool, VIC) during both the Grand Annual
Classic and the 12th round of the World Series Sprintcars
(WSS) Championship.
Despite
not having the best of luck in time trials at either
the Grand Annual Classic or the WSS round; Bricknell
was able to charge his way forward and finish with respectable
results in the C-mains. Bricknell finished the C-main
on night one of the Grand Annual Classic in sixth, passing
home town hero Max Dumesny in the process, and then
on the final night he finished second in the D-main
and therefore transferred through to the C-main where
he finished 11th place. During last Tuesday night’s
WSS round Bricknell finished the C-main strongly in
fifth place.

“Our
marble draws in qualifying didn’t really work in our
favour, as we had either came out too late or too early,
and it especially hurt us in our heat races for WSS
and also when it came to the business end of the night,”
commented Bricknell. “On the positive side of things
we managed in each of our runs at the end of the night
to work our way forward as we had good car speed and
in many of those races it was a feature race quality
field anywhere else in the country, so to be able to
be competitive and move forward was great.”
The
support of his loyal and hard working Bricknell Motorsport
crew; the TAS # 55 Montile Tile Boutique supported Maxim
driver paid tribute to all their efforts.
“It’s
a huge effort to come over to the mainland and all of
my crew put in a great job and I can’t thank them enough,”
Bricknell said. “We had a few dramas early on in our
trip and the whole team worked together and it was very
satisfying to be able to go to Premier Speedway and
come away with some pleasing results for the whole team.”
Bricknell
will now head back to Tasmania, opting not to contest
the originally scheduled Australian Nationals this Saturday
night at Speedway City (Adelaide, SA), to prepare for
the Tasmanian Title that is to be held on Saturday night,
February 13 at Carrick Speedway.
“I’m
really looking forward to the Tasmanian Title and the
goal is to naturally contend for the win,” added the
current leader of the Farmers Union Sprintcar Series
point standings.
