The
Tasmanian Sprintcar Title was one event that Jamie Bricknell
was looking forward to most in the 2009/10 season but
last Saturday night at Carrick Speedway the event didn’t
quite go according to plan.
A crash,
which resulted in a DNF, in the opening heat race of
the night didn’t help Bricknell’s Tasmanian Title aspirations
one bit. Despite a fifth place finish in the next heat
race he was forced to qualify for the Tasmanian Title
deciding feature race via the B-main.
In the
B-main, where he started from position seven, Bricknell
worked his way into a feature race transfer after he
finished in third place. With a lot of work ahead of
him in the feature race; Bricknell started from position
15 in the field, and by the middle stages he had worked
his way up to ninth place only to spin out of contention
and be forced to go to the rear of the field once he
was restarted. From the restart through to the finish
Bricknell charged his way forward and ended up finishing
in sixth spot.

“Crashing
out of my opening heat race put me on the back foot
from the get go and I just had to play catch up for
remainder of the night and at times it got frustrating
and I made a few driving errors,” Bricknell expressed.
“To end up sixth at the end of the feature race wasn’t
a bad result considering what we had to do to get there
but it was a very disappointing overall as certainly
would have liked to have done better.”
This
Saturday night (February 20) the sixth round of the
Farmers Union Sprintcar Series is to be battled out
at Hobart’s Mountain Dew Ice International Raceway and
Bricknell is looking to maintain his lead in the current
overall point standings.
