After
disappointing Tasmanian Title result last weekend, Jamie
Bricknell bounced back to form last Saturday night during
the sixth round of the Farmers Union Sprintcar Series
at Hobart’s Mountain Dew Ice Raceway after he narrowly
missed out on claiming his fourth feature victory of
the 09/10 season.
There
was only a half a car length that separated Bricknell
and race winner Tim Hutchins at the fall of the chequered
flag. On the positive side of things, Bricknell’s second
place was a good return to form and it once again consolidated
his lead in the overall Farmers Union Series point standings.
Bricknell,
who had finished his two heat races in fourth and third
place earlier in the night, started the feature race
from outside the front row alongside pole sitter and
highest point scorer Tim Hutchins but was beaten off
the start by the latter and had to quickly slot into
second place. Throughout the feature race there was
very little that separated Bricknell and Hutchins up
front but in the end it was Hutchins that held on for
the narrowest of victories.

“There
was very little passing all night and if I didn’t get
the jump off the start it was going to be very hard
to get control of the lead,” the TAS # 55 Montile Tile
Boutique sponsored Maxim driver commented. “The one
lane track resulted in Tim [Hutchins] and I playing
follow the leader during the feature race and to Tim’s
credit he didn’t make many mistakes and took the win.
In the end it turned out to be a very close finish as
we were neck and neck as we greeted the chequered flag.
We both show each other enough respect to give each
other enough racing room or otherwise it could’ve got
really nasty.”
The
annual Murcott Masters will be held at Latrobe’s Bendigo
Bank Arena this Friday and Saturday night (February
26 and 27) and Bricknell has his eyes on getting back
to victory lane.
