Within
the space of just a week Jamie Bricknell has went from
disappointment to elation and it has also got his Farmers
Union Sprintcar Series Title aspirations back on track.
Last
Saturday night (March 20) at Hobart’s Mountain Dew Ice
Raceway Bricknell picked up his fourth feature race
victory of the 09/10 season and in the process extended
his advantage in the overall Farmers Union Series point
standings.
After
dropping from second spot back to fourth in the early
stages of the feature race, Bricknell fought his way
back to second place and chased after pole sitter and
leader Tim Hutchins. On the 16th lap Hutchins got together
with a lapped car and crashed out and this handed command
over to Bricknell. Once in the lead Bricknell was able
to pace the field all the way through to the chequered
flag.
“This
was the perfect way to bounce back after last weekend’s
disappointment and it has certainly given us a good
haul of points towards our Farmers Union Series chase,”
Bricknell said, who was consistent throughout his two
heat races by finishing in third and second place. “We
had a bit of luck go our way in the feature race with
Tim [Hutchins] crashing out but I felt confident I had
enough car speed to challenge him had he not struck
misfortune.”

With
two rounds remaining in the Farmers Union Series, which
includes this Saturday night’s (March 27) double points
round at Carrick Speedway, Bricknell holds a steady
lead but he knows that this weekend’s round is either
going to make or break his series chances.
“There
isn’t too much between Tim [Hutchins] and I in the point
standings and the driver that has a strong result this
weekend is going to put themselves in the box seat heading
into the final round the following weekend,” commented
Bricknell. “Getting through this Saturday night is going
to be vital, especially since there are double points
on offer, even if that means playing it safe and just
finishing, if I have to do that then I will.”
