Bricknell’s 2008/09 Season Starts in Promising Fashion                                    6-11-2008

Despite not recording a feature race finish, Jamie Bricknell has still managed to start his 2008/09 Sprintcar season last weekend (November 1 and 2) at Carrick Speedway in Tasmania in very promising fashion.

Bricknell, after missing the season opener due to a prior commitment, came out last weekend with all guns blazing where he made his debut aboard a brand-new Maxim and a freshly re-built PM Race Engines prepared 410ci Chev powerplant.

Over the two night show Bricknell showed that he was one of the fastest, if not the fastest, car and this was proven when he managed to qualify on pole position for the feature race.

After dropping back to as low as fifth at the start of the 30-lap feature race, Bricknell fought his way back up to third place and his hopes of a podium finish were dashed on the 16th lap when he was forced to retire from the race due to mechanical woes.

“A few laps before I pulled infield the engine started to flutter and it was missing and making funny noises so I thought the best option was to retire, and we believe it might have dropped a cylinder or something like that,” explained Bricknell.

“It is very disappointing to have had so much pace all weekend only to fall short when it mattered most, in the feature race, and now the focus turns to our next race meeting where I’m hoping to turn things around and bring home a podium result.”

The two nights at Carrick Speedway was punctuated by the opening night’s racing being brought to a premature close due to a Sprintcar crashing into the fence and bringing it down which prevented racing from taking place.

In the heat race action Bricknell contested four heat races and he earned his highest point score honours heading into the feature race and the rite to start from pole position by recording a win, a second, a third, and a fourth.

Apart from his Sprintcar commitments last weekend, Bricknell also competed in the Tasmanian Go Kart Title (on the tar) and brought home a fourth place finish in the Clubman Light final. Bricknell’s result quite possibly could have been higher had he not failed to finish the pre final due to a coil lead coming adrift and due to the non finish he was forced to start the final from the tail of the field.

The next appearance for Bricknell is Saturday night, November 15, back at Carrick Speedway.
