Although
he is yet to break through for that elusive feature
race victory or another podium finish so far in the
2008/09 season, Tasmanian teenager Jamie Bricknell has
certainly made an impressive start to his second season
in Sprintcars.
Last
Saturday night (November 15) at Carrick Speedway Bricknell
made his second appearance of the 2008/09 season and
he was definitely unlucky not to come home with at least
a podium finish.
After
he had started the 30-lap feature race from outside
the front row alongside Adrian Redpath, Bricknell blasted
to the lead from the opening turn and went about building
up a handy buffer over the field. Nearing the half race
distance Bricknell’s # 55 TAS Maxim fell back into the
clutches of pole sitter Redpath and on the 14th lap
he was passed for the lead by the multiple Tasmanian
Champion.
With
the setup going away, Bricknell fought on gallantly
and was locked in a battle with Jason Dawkins for second
spot only for him to drift up into the top end of the
track in turn four on the 23rd lap and execute a ‘360’
spin. Despite not stopping the yellows were brought
out and Bricknell was able to restart in third place.
As the laps trickled away, Bricknell sat in third place
up until losing the final spot on the podium to Kurt
Luttrell on the final lap. Bricknell ended up finishing
in fourth place.
“The
car was magic at the start and looking back maybe it
was a little too good,” remarked Bricknell who had finished
his three heat races with a pair of second place finishes
and a third. “As the race wore on the looser the car
got and that allowed the cars behind me to catch up
and towards the end I was doing all I could to finish
on the podium but I fell just short.”
So far
in the 2008/09 season Bricknell has shown that he has
stepped it up a notch or two and he is certainly knocking
on the door for a breakthrough victory.
Bricknell
next Saturday night (November 22) makes his first appearance
of the season at Latrobe International Speedway.
